The Backstory of Gone With The Wynns

Jason and Nikki Wynn are the faces of and creatives behind Gone With The Wynns. They travel full-time with the motto, “We want to squeeze as much out of life as possible.”

In 2011, they started a road trip around North America in an RV. Then, in 2016, they bought a sailboat to voyage around the world. 

You can watch all of their journeys from the beginning to the present on their popular YouTube channel. Gone With The Wynns have a unique perspective and curiosity that drives them. It’s refreshing and inspiring whether you’re interested in full-time travel or not. Their zest for exploring, growing, and learning is contagious.

What Type of Vehicles Does Gone With The Wynns Travel With? 

Gone With The Wynns have used multiple vehicles, some that aren’t even meant for travel on land! Let’s check out all the vehicles they’ve explored in.

On Land

During Gone With The Wynns’ six-year road trip through North America, they lived in three different Class A motorhomes. They started with a Monaco, then moved to a Fleetwood Excursion, and lastly, a Fleetwood Bounder. And they towed a small Smart car behind their motorhomes to use as their daily driver. 

By Sea

Boat life with Gone With The Wynns

Now at sea, Gone With The Wynns live and travel on their S/V (sailing vessel) Curiosity. It’s a 2005 Robertson and Caine Leopard 43 Sailing Catamaran. The catamaran is an owner’s version with three cabins and three heads. Built in South Africa, it’s 42’6” long.

It’s loaded with solar and everything they need to live off-grid. The Wynns have done a lot of upgrades to the vessel and have documented them on their YouTube channel.

While sailing around Panama, Gone With The Wynns made landfall to explore The Lost Waterfalls in ​​Boquete, Panama. The hike to the three waterfalls is challenging but has great rewards. They found hidden pools for swimming in the Chiriqui Highlands.

But then Jason and Nikki had to decide whether to go skinny dipping. You’ll just have to watch to the end to find out what they chose! What we can tell you is that you’ll see beautiful scenery as they take you through a jungle paradise.

In the video, “Our Top RV Picks Under 30 Feet,” Jason and Nikki are shopping for a new RV. They take you through the pros and cons of their top three picks under 30 feet.

Even though this video is currently dated, it still provides excellent insight into things to consider when purchasing an RV. While your must-haves might not align with their needs, it’s always good to hear what experienced RVers look for in an RV to help with your RV search.  

#3. 11 Years Living Off-Grid on a Self-Built Island

Gone With The Wynns is in Tonga during this video, where they introduce us to some of their creative friends. In this video, you’ll meet Ben and Lisa — sailors who have been living in Tonga for more than 16 years and built an off-grid island resort.

The buildings on the Mandala Resort are all handcrafted and designed with the curves of nature in mind. Everything on the island is run by solar, and the food is grown on-site. The resort is creative, eco-friendly, and innovative, and you can stay there too. And while staying at the resort, you can explore the underwater world around the island.
