What Is a Tiny House?

Before we explore the Tiny House Festival, let’s touch a bit on tiny houses. While many people associate a tiny house with an RV, it’s actually quite a bit different.

A tiny house has many of the amenities you would expect from a typical home. Most will have a living area, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a bedroom. Many will also have an oven, a microwave, and a dishwasher. But all these spaces and appliances are generally more compact, and many have dual uses.

TINY HOUSE vs RV – WHICH IS BETTER?

For example, a living area could easily transition into a dining area. An appliance has several uses, and your typical refrigerator is just a mini version of its larger partner. Why? Because everything you want in a house needs to fit in a tiny space.

Tiny houses are generally no bigger than 600 square feet, with the average size being closer to 225 square feet. Tiny houses are much smaller than your typical family home, so it makes sense that they also cost less, with an average price of around $52,000.

Many purchase a tiny home to consume less energy, live off the land more, and have less stuff. While this sounds like a great way to live for many people, finding a place to house a tiny home can be difficult based on zoning laws in each state.

If you’re interested in living in a tiny house, the best way to learn about tiny living and how to do it is by visiting a tiny house festival.
