They are as different as night and day, but they make this lifestyle work brilliantly. In the words of the RV Odd Couple themselves, “We’re experiencing amazing freedom, peace, coupled with fear and anxiety. We’re keeping it real!”

And keeping it real, means doing some serious soul searching. Knowing that they both wanted to experience a minimalist lifestyle, including tiny living, they started by researching. Researching everything from travel vehicles to tiny homes to styles of camping and camping memberships to everything in between.
Along the way, they received invaluable advice.
Wanting to pay it back, they documented everything from the beginning and continue to do so in their adventurous travels along the way. They bring their story to you through their fun and educational videos.

The RV Odd Couple name fits them perfectly. They are as opposite as a couple can be in politics, careers, lifestyles, music, and even in their personalities. But their common ground is their love for family, faith, travel, and the freedom to live each day to its fullest.
Traveling with their toddler and their furry best friend, they have made a community out of the RV life. This includes their own little family, but also their RV family, The RV Odd Squad. This is a place to give and get advice, but more importantly, to connect with other travelers.

RVing now since the end of 2018, John, Mercedes, their dog and their little traveler have experienced moments of frustration, embarrassment, but also excitement.
Why Type of RV Does RV Odd Couple Travel With?
John and Mercedes did a lot of research when choosing their RV. It was, after all, going to be their full time home.
So with that in mind, along with safety features and ease of travel, they knew they wanted a fifth wheel. When purchasing a fifth wheel they knew they would also have to have the proper size truck to be able to pull that fifth wheel safely and with confidence.
Because of that they chose the GMC 3500 Dually w/Allison Transmission. Their choice for their home? A Forest River Sandpiper Luxury Fifth Wheel. At just under 42 feet, they have a home with enough space to raise a growing family and enough maneuverability to give them the freedom to travel and explore.
And as with many RVs, new or used, they were prepared to learn all they could about repairs and modifications when needed. It doesn’t matter what kind of house you have, when you first move in, you’ll add a few things, get rid of a few things, paint a few things, change a few things, all to make your new house a home.

Regardless of where your home is located, safety and security are always important. John and Mercedes had an unfortunate event when an intruder got on their RV roof, and they couldn’t contact 911 because of lack of cellular service.
They took matters into their own hands using an emergency action plan that they had already practiced. This action plan includes firearms, as they are both licensed. In the end, it all turned out ok, thanks to their furry friend, backup plan and firearms.
