New Grand Design Rig Attempts To Compete With Airstream

Grand Design is known for its towable RV lines, ranging from luxury toy haulers to budget-friendly travel trailers. Today, we’re sharing a new release slated for some time in 2024: the Serenova.

This sleek, sexy-looking travel trailer is lightweight and designed to appeal to younger generations. So, let’s dive in and learn more about these new Grand Design units!

Who Is Grand Design?

Winnebago Industries owns Grand Design RV. The company was founded by Don Clark, Bill Fenech, and Ron Fenech in 2012. They aimed to produce higher quality yet affordable towable RVs for a wide range of consumers. They also sought to provide excellent customer service and foster a healthy company-customer relationship.

Grand Design is among the most recognizable names in the towable RV industry. You’ve likely seen an Imagine, Reflection, or Momentum if you’ve been camping a few times.

Even though the brand hasn’t been in the industry as long as other companies, it’s known for manufacturing better quality campers and offering better customer service than many competitors.

What Types Of RVs Does Grand Design Manufacture?

Grand Design RV produces travel trailers, fifth wheels, and toy haulers. The company doesn’t manufacture any motorized RVs. The travel trailer lines include the Transcend, Imagine, and Reflection. The Momentum Mav and Momentum G-Class are travel trailer toy haulers.

The Reflection and Solitude used to be the only fifth wheel lines, but in recent years, Grand Design added the Reflection 150 Series, a lightweight fifth wheel that can be towed with a lighter-duty truck. Grand Design announced that it will also add the Reflection 100 Series and Influence lines in 2024.

What Is the Serenova?

The Grand Design Serenova travel trailer debuted at an open house in Middlebury, Indiana in late September 2023. This single-axle unit features a huge front window.

Not only is the panoramic window unique to Grand Design, but the exterior of the Serenova offers a sleek, cool, sexy look that younger generations are longing for.

Although Airstream may be the epitome of status in the towable RV industry, Grand Design seeks to offer a similar style with a cheaper price tag. The Serenova doesn’t look anything like other Grand Design campers.

How Many Serenova Floorplans Are There?

Grand Design announced three floorplans for the new Serenova travel trailer: the 150BH, 155MS, and 160LG.

The 150BH has a rear bunk, the 155MS has a rear bath, and the 160LG has a rear queen bed. The Serenova units are around 20 feet long.

All three models have a front dinette, campside galley kitchen, tankless water heater, 200-watt solar panel, 30-amp charge controller and inverter prep, three observation cameras, Goodyear Endurance tires, and European PolyVision windows.

The tank sizes are 39 gallons for fresh water, 30 for gray water, and 30 for black waste.

Is the Serenova Similar To Airstream Models?

It appears the Serenova is getting compared to Airstream models because of its sleek look and lightweight design. But this trailer really isn’t the same.

While younger generations usually can’t afford an Airstream, the Serenova offers an option for these campers to enjoy a lightweight, cool-looking trailer that is not as pricey as the aluminum competitor.

At 20 feet, the Serenova is most similar to the Caravel 20FB, which starts at $82,000, or the Bambi 20FB, which starts at $67,000.

Both of these single-axle Airstream models feature a front bed, center dinette, L-shaped kitchen, and corner bathroom. But the quality and craftsmanship of Airstream just don’t compare to other manufacturers. Thus, the higher price tag.

Is Grand Design Introducing Any Other New Lines?

Grand Design also announced other new lines in 2024: the Reflection 100 Series and the Influence.

While Grand Design already manufactures the Reflection 150 Series, the 100 Series offers smaller, lighter fifth-wheel options.

For example, the 22RK has a hitch weight of only 1,086 pounds, making it half-ton towable and easier to maneuver. All models will come with a 100-watt solar panel.

The Influence fifth wheel fills the gap between the Reflection and Solitude lines. This new model has two floorplans: the 3803GK and the 4003BH.

The 3803GK is 38 feet 3 inches and features the traditional fifth-wheel layout with a rear living and front bedroom. The 4003BH is 40 feet 4 inches and features a rear bunk room. Both models will come with a 330-watt solar panel.
