Nathan and Marissa from Less Junk More Journey discussing why they are selling their RV.

Why Less Junk, More Journey is Selling Their RV

After four years, 25 states, and even a couch squeezed through a window, Nathan and Marissa from Less Junk, More Journey have decided to part ways with their beloved RV. This is no ordinary goodbye—it’s the end of an era filled with adventure, growth, and incredible memories.

In one of their latest videos, they share the three reasons behind their decision, reflect on the incredible experiences they’ve had, and offer a glimpse into what’s next. Let’s take a look at why Less Junk, More Journey sold their RV.

The RV That Became a Family Member

Their fifth-wheel RV has been more than just a vehicle; it’s been a home.

From spacious sleeping areas to the beloved taco bar and high-tech upgrades like 8K axles with disc brakes, Nathan and Marissa customized their RV to suit their needs perfectly.

They even equipped it with 800 amp hours of lithium batteries and solar panels, allowing them to live off-grid comfortably.

But it’s not the features that make letting go so hard—it’s the memories.

  • Boondocking with stunning views: The Badlands, Grand Teton National Park, and Upper Teton View remain favorite spots, offering breathtaking landscapes right outside their RV windows.
  • Unique adventures: Taking the RV on a ferry to Ocracoke Island, navigating Colorado’s nail-biting Million Dollar Highway, and camping at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta were unforgettable experiences.
  • Family moments: Pancake breakfasts, wrestling matches with the kids, and watching Christmas snow from the RV created memories they’ll cherish forever.

As Marissa put it, “The RV isn’t just a thing—it feels like it’s part of the family.”

Reason #1: Life is Changing

Nathan and Marissa’s RV journey began when their kids were much younger—JJ was a toddler, and Hensley was just starting school.

Over time, their kids have grown, and so have their needs. The family now juggles homeschooling and a slower pace of life, which doesn’t align with their previous fast-paced, adventurous RVing style.

“Change is hard,” Nathan admits, “especially in an RV where every memory is tied to a specific space.”

In a house, change might mean adding a room or remodeling. In an RV, there’s no such option.

As their family evolves, their needs do too, and it’s time to find a setup that fits their current stage of life.

Reason #2: Destinations and Pace Are Shifting

When Nathan and Marissa first hit the road, they thrived on adventure, moving quickly from one destination to the next.

Back then, their Airstream RV was perfect for their lifestyle. But now, with two kids in tow and more responsibilities, they’ve embraced a slower pace of travel.

This change has inspired them to consider a dual-RV approach. A smaller RV for short, adventurous trips could complement their larger one for everyday living.

They’ve noticed a trend among fellow RVers who invest in second vehicles like vans or smaller RVs to accommodate different travel needs.

Nathan explained their new mindset: “We love fast-paced travel, but we can’t sustain it year-round. By renting or owning a smaller RV occasionally, we can scratch that itch while living comfortably in a larger one.”

Reason #3: Moving RVs Is Easier Than Moving Houses

Transitioning from one RV to another is much simpler than moving from one house to another.

Nathan and Marissa appreciate how RV living has encouraged them to stay organized and embrace minimalism.

Moving to a new RV becomes an opportunity to downsize and reevaluate what’s truly essential.

Nathan jokes, “We’ve moved so often that now I catch myself saying, ‘I’ll deal with that when we move.’ It’s become part of our routine!”

This lighter, simpler lifestyle is a major benefit of RV living, and it’s why they feel confident about making this transition.

What’s Next?

The family isn’t just selling their RV—they’re building a new one! Partnering with Grand Design, they’ve spent years designing their dream RV, tailored to their needs and informed by feedback from their audience.

While they won’t be swinging hammers, they’ve been deeply involved in the creative process.

If you’re interested in their current RV, it’s up for sale and packed with upgrades worth over $60,000. SOLD! And just like that, Less Junk, More Journey sold their RV. Nathan and Marissa poured their hearts into making it a home, and they’re excited for its next owners to create their own memories.

Looking Ahead

Though it’s bittersweet, for Less Junk, More Journey to have sold their RV, this decision reflects Nathan and Marissa’s commitment to adapting and growing with their family’s needs.

Whether it’s a slower pace, a new RV design, or the flexibility of dual RV life, they’re embracing change with open arms.

As they put it, “The perfect RV is the one that gets you out making memories as a family.”
